Make a Splash! Goldfish Swim School Teams with USA Swimming Foundation

Statistics state 10 people drown each day in the United States. Sure, we teach kids how to swim at Goldfish Swim School – but our main objective is to teach kids how to be safer in and around the water to prevent drowning accidents. That's why we've teamed up with the USA Swimming Foundation in support of their "Make A Splash" initiative, so we can celebrate that even more kids have this lifesaving skill.

swim lessons…Or Water Safety Lessons?

You may have been on the fence about signing your kids up for swim lessons, for a plethora of reasons. Maybe you don't live near a lake, or you aren't really a "swimming" family (perhaps you don't know how to swim yourself), https://goldfishswimschool.com/blog/parents-what-if-you-dont-know-how-to-swim-tips-to-help-your-kids/ or you think your child can pick up swimming basics by just playing around in the water like you did.

But did you know that swim lessons at Goldfish Swim School go way beyond simply teaching how to get from one side of the pool to the other?

Drowning is the second-leading cause of accidental death for children ages 5-12 – and we want to prevent that as much as possible.

Make a Splash…for Everyone

At Goldfish Swim School, we strive to raise awareness about water safety across the country. And we know that not everyone has access to swim lessons, so we're doing what we can to provide kids with the opportunity to learn how to be safer in and around the water while building their confidence in the pool.

Children in families where the income is less than $50,000 often have very minimal – if any – swimming ability. Yet it has been shown that swim lessons can reduce the likeliness of accidental drowning by 88 percent.

So how do we make sure income levels don't dictate water safety abilities?

The USA Swimming Foundation (the philanthropic arm of USA Swimming) created the "Make a Splash" initiative in 2017 to raise awareness and funds that would provide free or low-cost swim lessons to children who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford them.

The "Make a Splash" objectives are to:

  • Raise Awareness -- about water safety and the importance of learning how to swim
  • Increase Participation -- to enroll 1 million children annually in swim lessons
  • Align Partners -- to bring together national and community organizations to spread awareness

We want everyone to have a golden experience in the water, so Goldfish Swim School decided to partner with the USA Swimming Foundation in this endeavor by becoming an official learn-to-swim provider and water safety advocate across all of our 89 (and growing) locations around the country! Our goal is to raise $1 million by 2024 that will be used to provide swim lessons and water safety skills to children who may otherwise not be able to.

And you can help us achieve those extraordinary results! Ask us how at your local Goldfish Swim School.
