Bob and Kathy Ryan live in Lincoln Park with their two children and are the owners and operators of Goldfish Swim School – Roscoe Village and Goldfish Swim School – Wicker Park.
After a close-call with a pool on vacation, Kathy and Bob decided to get serious about getting their children in swim lessons. “I needed to arm them with this life-saving skill…and I needed peace of mind. We really did try [to find lessons in the city]. But the health club’s times were tough for us, and other options were just too cold for my skinny, skinny kids,” said Kathy.
Yet, two years after the incident, there were still no swim schools in the city of Chicago. So in 2012, they decided to open a Goldfish Swim School location, which they had learned about from a family member in Michigan, where the brand was founded. “We saw the need for better swim instruction options for Chicago families,” said Kathy. “We knew that the Goldfish Swim School model was the best one out there, and we are thrilled to bring their proven curriculum and systems to this new state-of-the-art swimming facility in Chicago.” Goldfish Swim School – Roscoe Village was opened in January 2013, and has taught thousands of Chicago kids how to swim and be safer in and around the water.
“I often ask myself, ‘Who in their right mind would try to build a pool in the city?’ But then I look at what we have already accomplished,” said Kathy. Bob and Kathy are excited for the January 2017 opening of their second Goldfish Swim School, located in the Wicker Park neighborhood in the city of Chicago.
“We know that more and more Chicago families see the benefits of high quality swim instruction for their children and we are excited to add an additional facility and bring the unique swim lesson experience offered at Goldfish Swim School to more children,” said Kathy.
