The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer and summer is just around the corner!

Whether your idea of fun in the sun involves running through the sprinkler, swimming at the pool, planning a day trip to the beach or taking the boat out for a spin, one thing is certain: summer and swimming go hand-in-hand, and we want everyone to know how to be safer in and around water.

So, in celebration of National Water Safety Month, we’re challenging every member of our Goldfish Family to take our Safer Swimmer Pledge as a way to gear up, give back and save lives this summer.

YOUR SAFER SUMMER STARTS NOW: HERE’S HOW TO TAKE THE PLEDGE!

HELP US MAKE WAVES FOR WATER SAFETY: CHALLENGE YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY TO TAKE THE PLEDGE

Even World Champion Swimmer Ryan Murphy took a break from training for the Olympic Trials to take the pledge. As a vocal advocate for water safety, and a brand ambassador for the USA Swimming Foundation and Goldfish Swim School, he challenges everyone to take the pledge, stating:

“Even as I gear up for the Games, my passion lies in spreading the important message of water safety. I have a deep love for the sport of swimming, but sadly drowning remains the number one cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages one to four. With this campaign, it’s my hope more and more families will prioritize water safety. Getting swim lessons at a young age can have such a positive effect on kids and their ability to feel comfortable in and around the water, while also giving parents peace of mind at the pool or beach – and who knows, it might even spark a love of the sport, too.”

WHAT EVERY PARENT NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT WATER SAFETY & DROWNING PREVENTION

We started Goldfish Swim School with the mission to help children be safer in and around the water, and even during these unprecedented times, drowning prevention remains a top priority of ours.

Although the world may look a little different, childhood drownings have sadly been on the rise. The American Academy of Pediatrics recently issued a formal warning of the increased threat of drowning due to implications brought on by the pandemic. Many children have been out of swim lessons for some time, making it critical to brush up on water safety tips before they dip their toes in the water and get back in the swim of things this summer.

“Drowning can happen anywhere at any time, to anyone, and with this pandemic-gap in swim lessons, there’s greater risk,” said Dr. Molly O’Shea of Birmingham Pediatrics + Wellness Center and official pediatrician of Goldfish Swim School. “As a pediatrician, it is so important to promote family conversations about water safety, drowning prevention and the value of swim lessons, because they have the ability to help reduce the risk of childhood drownings by 88%. Goldfish Swim School’s Safer Swimmer Pledge is a tremendous way to bring greater attention to the importance of water safety as a family.”
